Coming back to Lorwyn is amazing. I was asked to be part of the design team for the Lorwyn Eclipsed set and worked with Deborah Garcia as the leading art deriector to try and be true to the original set while still coming up with new ideas. I did a lot of design work on the treefolk and was very excited when asked to do a legendary one for the set. In my sketch he had a long pointy nose but i felt he needed something more iconic to me a named caracther - so the twirly nose was added. The place reminded me of one of my first cards for magic: Thornbite Staff. If you look closely you can see its till laying there; even after all these years.
(I love that when I saw the rule text for the card "Ferrafor, the Young Yew" his tap effect can actually be combined with the staff if you have a sacrifice outlet)

Today is the exactly 10 years since I've got my very first assignment for Magic the Gathering!
And my 100th card was revealed!

So, on the 11th January 2016, I got my very first Magic the Gathering assignment - „Inefabble Blessing“. It was the peak of the 11 years of trying to break in. [...]

It is great coincidence that my 100th assignment was revealed in the same time as this 10th anniversary.
This 100th card is „Safewright Cavalry“, painted for Lorwyn Eclipsed art directed by Samantha Padilla.

Still remembers well how Mari approached me and ask whether I would like to do MTG x God of War and geeked out right away because that journey from the game lingers with you. The scenes, battles, emotional moments, everything. And I jumped out of excitement after reading the brief that I get to do THE son and father.

This marks my first pano scene for MTG as well. All in all, everything is a blast and I hope I did these two justice!

Parker was described as being related to his earliest portrayals, and he was to be eating wheat cakes in Aunt May's home (with references given of her home from the era). While it wasn't stated explicitly, I immediately decided to rotate the camera from the Aunt May illustration, and make them one. This was perfect since the implication in Aunt May's composition was that you were at the table with her, that perhaps you were Peter. In that sense, this would almost have made a better flip card with May.
